Billing
Hospitals today are looking for systems that offer a demonstrable return on investment (ROI) as well as solve
clinical and management issues associated with the perioperative environment. Since 1996, Frontiers™ has
been utilized to submit over 1 million patient charges and is well suited to automating the paper and labor-intensive
billing process you are following today. Converting from paper to automated processing has been well documented to
dramatically increase charge capture and decrease billing cycle time thereby providing the ROI hospitals are seeking.
Frontiers™ does not simply replace your charge sheets with their electronic counterparts - what would be the
advantage? Instead, all billing logic is derived from clinical entries and the unique billing capabilities of Frontiers™
allow multiple methods to charge for each item. Part of the service that is provided before you go "live" is to take the
charge sheets for each care area and develop the charge logic for creating those charges in Frontiers™. Automating
the paper process does not mean that any control over the billing process is lost. The Frontiers™ billing system
provides a separate PC application which runs each case through an extensive series of "edits and checks" to insure that
no invalid charge items are submitted. Because a consistent set of logic is applied to each case, charges are uniformly
developed from the medical record and are easily auditable.
Frontiers™ provides the ability to easily update forms, menus and billing logic, without any downtime and once
the charges are developed, they can be printed, sent via HL7 or even sent by electronic mail. Frontiers™ not only
provides an electronic medical record for the clinicians, but truly provides a mechanism to handle all the business
processes that surround it.
